Join us for a captivating day trip to the charming colonial town of Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay.
After breakfast, you’ll be collected from your hotel and driven to the ferry terminal. Here, you’ll check in and pass through border control before boarding the ferry. The crossing over the Río de la Plata takes approximately 1.5 hours. The river is considered the widest in the world and forms the natural border between Argentina and Uruguay. On board, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase snacks and drinks.
Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by your guide, who will take you on a walking tour of the historic quarter. You’ll stroll along charming cobbled streets and pass well-known attractions such as Calle de los Suspiros – the Street of Sighs – and the Basílica del Santísimo Sacramento, the town’s oldest church. Along the way, your guide will bring the city’s fascinating history and cultural heritage to life, taking you on a journey back in time.
Colonia was founded by the Portuguese in 1680 and, for several centuries, was the focus of power struggles between Portugal and Spain. Today, the town’s historic centre is listed on the UNESCO world heritage list. Its colourful houses, cobbled streets, and unique blend of Portuguese and Spanish architecture create a truly special atmosphere that you can happily lose yourself in for hours.
After the guided tour, you’ll have time to explore the city further at your own pace. You might like to visit one of the cosy cafés or restaurants for a leisurely lunch at your own expense, or browse the town’s charming little shops. In the late afternoon, you’ll be collected and driven to the harbour, where you’ll once again take the ferry across the Río de la Plata back to Buenos Aires.
Please note that you must bring your passport on this tour, as it includes a border crossing between Argentina and Uruguay.
