Join us on a full-day hike through Patagonia’s magnificent wilderness to the iconic Laguna de los Tres. Compared to the trek to Laguna Capri, this route is both longer and more demanding, but it rewards you along the way with even more breathtaking views of Patagonia’s captivating mountain landscapes.
The tour starts early in the morning, beginning with a drive towards the Río Eléctrico bridge, where the day’s trek commences. Right from the start, the scenery opens up to reveal stunning views of several of the area’s most striking peaks, including Saint Exupéry, Poincenot, Fitz Roy, Mermoz, and Guillaumet. Along the way, you’ll pass the viewpoint overlooking the Piedras Blancas Glacier, where the impressive strip of ice can be seen stretching between forest and mountainsides.
After the first part of the trek, the trail becomes more challenging. Over the course of the next hour, the path climbs roughly 400 metres in elevation along uneven terrain with loose stones and occasional high steps. The steep ascent can be physically demanding, but the reward for your effort awaits at the summit.
Upon arrival at Laguna de los Tres, you’ll be greeted by one of Patagonia’s most iconic vistas, where the towering peaks of Fitz Roy, Poincenot, and Saint Exupéry rise dramatically above the lagoon. Take a moment to pause and soak up the breathtaking view of Glaciar de los Tres and the turquoise lake below. The trek continues around the lagoon to the viewpoint overlooking Laguna Sucia and its glacier, where you can enjoy your packed lunch (at your own expense), surrounded by truly magical scenery.
From here, the descent begins as you make your way back through the Patagonian landscape. Along the route, you’ll pass the beautiful Laguna Capri before finishing the trek back in El Chaltén.
As the weather in Patagonia’s mountains can be highly changeable and may shift dramatically within minutes, it’s important to bring warm clothing that you can easily put on or take off as conditions change.
