Discover some of the most breathtaking views around El Chaltén on a hike to the idyllic Laguna Capri, where the tranquil lagoon and dramatic granite peaks set the scene for an unforgettable experience amidst Patagonia’s magnificent natural beauty.
The day’s trek starts directly from El Chaltén, following a trail that leads you up through the valley along the Río de las Vueltas. The first part of the route climbs steadily as you gradually leave the town behind and enter the stunning Patagonian forest. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to spot some of the region’s unique flora and fauna, and if you’re lucky, you might catch sight of the distinctive Magellanic woodpecker.
After the initial uphill stretch, the terrain becomes gentler, and before long, you’ll arrive at Laguna Capri. Here, one of El Chaltén’s classic panoramas awaits – the spectacular Fitz Roy mountain, rising majestically in the background of the serene lagoon. Take your time to soak in the view from the lagoon’s shore before making the leisurely return hike along the same path back to El Chaltén.
As the weather in Patagonia’s mountains can be extremely changeable and shift dramatically within minutes, it’s important that you bring warm clothing that you can easily put on or take off as conditions change.
