Join a guided snorkelling tour at the Tangalooma shipwrecks on Moreton Island – one of Australia’s finest snorkelling locations – and get up close to a stunning array of colourful reef fish, corals and other marine life. With a little luck, you might even spot a sea turtle.

Moreton Island, also known as Mulgumpin, is one of the world’s largest sand islands. It’s especially famous for its long sandy beaches, towering dunes, crystal-clear lagoons and the rich marine wildlife that lives in the surrounding waters.

The Tangalooma shipwrecks were deliberately sunk between 1963 and 1984 to create a sheltered harbour. Today, they serve as artificial reefs teeming with fascinating marine life, making this one of Australia’s most popular snorkelling sites.

From Brisbane, you’ll be driven to the harbour, where a catamaran ferry will take you to Tangalooma Island Resort on Moreton Island. The scenic crossing of Moreton Bay takes around 75 minutes.

Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed by a host who will brief you on the day’s programme, including the timing of the snorkelling tour.

The snorkelling tour is a safe and worry-free experience. You’ll be taken by boat out to the shipwrecks, saving you the effort of battling currents or swimming all the way there yourself. The tour includes a guide and all necessary snorkelling gear (life jacket, wetsuit, fins, snorkel, and mask – prescription masks are available if needed). All you have to do is sit back, relax, and marvel at the colourful life beneath the surface.

Tangalooma Island Resort will be your base for the day. After your snorkelling adventure, you can enjoy lunch at one of the resort’s restaurants. The tour includes a lunch voucher worth AUD 25 per adult and AUD 20 per child, which can be used at the on-site restaurants. You are also free to make use of the resort’s pool, toilets, and changing facilities throughout the day.

The rest of the day is yours to spend as you wish. The resort has an activity centre where you can purchase optional excursions or rent kayaks and paddleboards. All activities are subject to availability.

Alternatively, you might prefer to simply unwind, take a stroll along the beautiful beach, or soak up the sunshine by the water.

At 4 p.m., you’ll sail back to Brisbane after a day filled with sunshine, sea, and unforgettable experiences. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred back to Brisbane city centre.

Starting and finishing point: Central meeting point in Brisbane (see address and time on your voucher). Please note that you are responsible for arranging your own transport to and from the meeting point.

Duration: Approximately 9–10 hours. The snorkelling tour lasts around 1½ hours, including a safety briefing and the boat trip from the beach to the shipwrecks and back again. You’ll spend about 30 minutes snorkelling at the shipwrecks.

Group size: On the snorkelling tour, there are approximately 12 participants per guide, although there will be more guests on the boat to and from the shipwrecks, as well as on the ferry to and from Moreton Island.

Price includes: Return transport from Brisbane to the ferry terminal, ferry to/from Moreton Island, day pass to Tangalooma Island Resort, snorkelling tour including guide and equipment, plus a lunch voucher worth AUD 25 per adult and AUD 20 per child, redeemable at the resort’s restaurants.

Remember to bring: Swimwear, towel, cap and sunscreen with high UV protection – preferably a so-called reef-safe sunscreen without harmful substances that could affect the corals.

Please note: The minimum age for the snorkelling tour is 6 years. The excursion may be cancelled in the event of bad weather. Should this occur, the tour will, of course, be refunded.
