Hiking in Torres del Paine - Base Torres

Join one of Chile’s most iconic hikes and experience the breathtaking landscapes of Torres del Paine National Park up close. This route is longer and more demanding than most other hikes in the area, but it rewards you with a visit to the foot of the famous granite towers, Torres del Paine, where one of Patagonia’s most spectacular views awaits. You can truly look forward to an unforgettable encounter with nature.

Early in the morning, you’ll be collected from your hotel in Puerto Natales and travel towards the northern part of Torres del Paine National Park. After entering via Laguna Amarga, the drive will continue to the Cerro Paine Reserve, where today’s hike begins.

The first stretch of the trail climbs steadily through open terrain with low vegetation before reaching Paso de los Vientos, offering wonderful views across the valley and surrounding mountains. The path then descends to Refugio Chileno, where you’ll have time for a short break before continuing through the Patagonian beech forests along the rushing Ascencio River.

The final stretch of the route is the most challenging. The trail becomes steeper as you make your way through rocky terrain scattered with loose stones, while the landscape gradually opens up around you. The last few metres demand an extra push, but it is all worth it when you reach Las Torres Base, where the three iconic granite towers rise almost vertically above the turquoise glacial lake. Here, you will have time to enjoy your packed lunch, rest your legs, and take in the breathtaking surroundings before returning along the same route.

As the weather in Torres del Paine can change rapidly, it is important to bring warm clothing that you can easily put on and take off necessary layers as conditions shift. Strong winds, rain, and sunshine can all occur on the same day.
