Experience Kanazawa after dark on an atmospheric evening tour, where you’ll explore the city’s historic geisha districts and enjoy a traditional Japanese meal in authentic surroundings.
Make your own way to the Hashiba-cho bus stop, where you’ll meet your guide. The tour will begin with an introduction to Kanazawa’s rich history. The city has managed to preserve its original architecture and layout from the Edo period, and a stroll through its evocative streets feels like stepping back in time.
Your guide will lead you through two of the city’s most beautiful geisha districts, where lanterns cast a golden glow over the traditional wooden houses. As you walk, your guide will share captivating stories about the area’s past and the lives of the geisha – their artistic skills and their important role in society at the time. You’ll gain fascinating insights into how these neighbourhoods were chosen as the city’s entertainment quarters, often located close to temples, shrines, and the castle, where the bustle of urban life once thrived.
The evening concludes at a local restaurant, where you will be treated to a traditional Japanese meal featuring a full menu of several small dishes accompanied by a drink of your choice. During the meal, your guide will explain the many delicate elements of the menu and their cultural significance.
The tour will then come to an end, but if you wish, you can continue exploring Kanazawa’s historic atmosphere on your own, as the night and the lanterns bring the past to life.
