Discover three of Kyoto’s most famous temples and shrines on a captivating afternoon tour that blends history, spirituality, and beauty in the heart of Japan’s ancient capital. 

Make your own way to the Kyoto Avanti shopping centre, located right next to Kyoto Station, where you’ll meet your guide for the day. From here, the tour will continue to the Fushimi Inari Shrine, one of Japan’s most iconic sights, famed for its thousands of orange torii gates that form a seemingly endless tunnel up the mountain behind the shrine. Along the way, your guide will share fascinating insights into Shinto traditions and the fox’s symbolic role as the protector of rice and prosperity. 

Your next stop is Sanjusangendo Temple, known as the “Hall with the Thirty-Three Bays”. Here, you’ll witness one of Japan’s most extraordinary sights – 1,001 golden statues of Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy, standing side by side within the long temple hall. Your guide will bring the temple’s construction and its importance in the rich history of Buddhism to life with captivating stories. 

The tour will conclude with a visit to the famous Kiyomizu-dera Temple, dramatically perched on a mountainside overlooking the entire city of Kyoto. The temple is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is particularly renowned for its vast wooden terrace, supported by hundreds of pillars. From here, you can enjoy a breathtaking view while your guide shares the story of the temple’s origins and the spiritual energy that continues to draw visitors from across the world.  

The tour will end at Kyoto Station, where the guide will be happy to offer recommendations for restaurants or ideas for further exploration on your own.
