The tour in short

This tour is a wonderful combination of a beach holiday on the beautiful Diani Beach and safari adventures in three of Kenya’s magnificent national parks.

You’ll start with a couple of nights by the coast, where you can unwind on the powder-white sands before your safari adventure begins.

After two nights here, you’ll head to Tsavo East National Park, which forms part of one of Kenya’s oldest and largest national parks.

Here you’ll encounter Africa’s most iconic wildlife, with the famous ‘red’ elephants being the most celebrated. When they bathe in the red dust and mud of the stunning terrain, it almost looks as though the elephants themselves are red!

In one of Kenya’s smallest national parks, Amboseli, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped peak. The park is particularly renowned for its large herds of elephants, and its scenery offers a striking contrast to Tsavo East.

Tsavo West boasts an incredibly diverse landscape of wetlands, natural springs, and rolling hills shaped by volcanic activity.

After your safari holiday, you’ll head back to the coast, where you’ll spend four nights relaxing.

Now’s your chance to reflect on all your incredible experiences beneath swaying palm trees, or venture into Mombasa to stroll through its narrow streets, breathe in the scent of exotic spices, and gain fascinating insights into the city’s rich culture and history.

Why choose this tour

  • Get ready to encounter Amboseli’s elephants, Tsavo’s striking red soil, and its natural springs.
  • Enjoy leisurely days by the beach, unwinding by the pool while taking in views of swaying palm trees and the shimmering sea.
  • Elephants, lions, hippos, buffaloes, kudus – keep your eyes peeled for all of them.
  • On a clear day, you might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the majestic Kilimanjaro.

Day 3
Stay at Diani Beach on the Kenyan coast

Diani Beach has been voted several times as one of Africa’s top beach destinations—and it’s easy to see why. The brilliant white, powdery sand forms a stunning contrast with the turquoise-blue sea. The coconut palms provide shade for those who prefer it, while plenty of sun loungers around the pool offer space for those who’d rather soak up the sun.

Our recommendation is to spend today relaxing and enjoying the resort. Tomorrow marks the start of your safari adventure, and there will be plenty of time for excursions once you return to the beach after the safari!

It’s a good idea to prepare a small bag to take with you on safari, while any remaining luggage can be stored safely at the hotel.

Day 4
Tsavo East National Park

After breakfast and check-out from your room, you’ll leave behind the palm trees and beautiful beach as you set off on your drive towards the eastern part of Tsavo.

You’ll arrive at the lodge in time for a (slightly late) lunch, and in the afternoon, your first real game drive awaits.

Tsavo is one of Kenya’s oldest and largest national parks, made up of two parks – Tsavo East and Tsavo West. Together, they cover an impressive 21,000 km², making Tsavo one of the largest national parks in the world.

The eastern part of the park makes up just over half of Tsavo. The landscape here is flat and dry, characterised by its red soil, which gives the elephants a reddish hue after their mud or dust baths.

Thanks to the Galana River, which runs through the park, Tsavo East boasts a rich and diverse wildlife population. In addition to the famous “red” elephants, the park is home to buffaloes, lions, hippos, zebras, giraffes, waterbucks, and a great many more.

Furthermore, the park is a paradise for bird enthusiasts between late October and early January, when numerous migratory birds take up residence in Tsavo.

After your game drive, a lovely dinner awaits you back at the lodge.

Day 5
Amboseli National Park

Be prepared for an early start – you might be up with the sun, but don’t worry, today’s adventure is worth it! After breakfast, it’s time to bid farewell to Tsavo East as you head to your next destination: Amboseli National Park.

You’ll be travelling from one of Kenya’s largest national parks to one of its smallest, but the experiences ahead will be every bit as remarkable.

Today you’ll notice a striking change in the scenery. While Tsavo East is defined by its red soil, dry savannah, and the Galana River, Amboseli features grey salt flats, lush swamps, and stunning views of Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro. The vegetation is sparse here, making it easier to spot the wild animals.

You’ll arrive at your camp, where lunch awaits before heading out on an afternoon game drive in the national park.

Amboseli is renowned for its large elephant herds with magnificent tusks (also known as ‘Super Tuskers’), but you might also be lucky enough to spot lions, hyenas, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, and an abundance of birdlife.

During the day, Kilimanjaro is often veiled in clouds, but if you’re lucky, the sky clears in the afternoon, allowing you to enjoy a sundowner at the camp while taking in the view of the mountain.

Day 6
Tsavo West National Park

You’ll say farewell to Amboseli and head towards Tsavo West. Once again today, you’ll experience a striking change in scenery.

The landscapes of Tsavo West are wonderfully varied, ranging from wetlands and natural springs to rugged terrain shaped by volcanic activity.

You’ll specifically visit the natural spring, Mzima Springs.

The water originates from rainfall over the Chyulu Hills and, after a long journey through volcanic rock, rises to the surface. Surrounded by palms and acacia trees, the spring produces around 220 million litres of water a day and is an important source of fresh water for Mombasa and the surrounding coastal region. Mzima Springs is also home to a wealth of birdlife – keep an eye out, for example, for the kingfisher, which loves to perch on the low-hanging branches close to the water.

With denser vegetation, it can be a little trickier to spot the animals in Tsavo West, but the more hilly terrain and lush greenery offer excellent opportunities to encounter some of Kenya’s more elusive wildlife – including the leopard.

You’ll also enjoy a game drive in Tsavo West before the day’s sundowner and dinner await you at the lodge.
