Would you like your transfer day from Puno to Cusco to be something truly special? Then this is just the experience for you. You’ll be collected from your hotel in the morning – but instead of heading to the bus station, your driver will take you to the train station, where you’ll board PeruRail’s Titicaca Train bound for Cusco. Ahead awaits a 10½-hour rail journey along one of the world’s most breathtaking train routes. This is far more than a simple transfer between two destinations – it’s a magnificent journey in its own right and one of the most atmospheric ways to experience the Peruvian highlands.
The train glides through the glorious highlands of the Altiplano plateau, where you can take in sweeping views of rolling grasslands, tiny mountain villages, dramatic snow-capped peaks, and, with a bit of luck, spot a few llamas and alpacas grazing on the open plains. Around midday, the train stops at La Raya Village, the highest point along the route at 4,319 metres above sea level. Here you’ll have a short break to stretch your legs, browse the small local stalls, and perhaps pick up a lovely handmade souvenir as a keepsake from your journey.
On board, you’ll be treated to a delicious three-course gourmet lunch inspired by Peruvian cuisine. Later, afternoon tea is served, followed by a Pisco Sour demonstration. You’re free to move around the train, and we especially recommend visiting the rear carriage, which features large panoramic windows and an open-air platform – perfect for enjoying the spectacular scenery and breathing in the crisp mountain air. The journey is enhanced by live music and a traditional dance performance, giving you a wonderful insight into the region’s culture and traditions. In the early evening, you’ll arrive in Cusco, where you’ll be met at the station and driven to your hotel.
Note: This train journey operates only on selected days of the week (Monday, Thursday, and Saturday). Therefore, you’ll need to consider your departure day from Europe if you’d like to purchase this transfer.
Tickets for this train journey are limited and therefore subject to availability. It’s usually necessary to book your spot at the same time as when booking your tour. If you wish to upgrade your transfer to include this train journey afterwards, and seats are still available, an additional fee will apply.
