Cai Be

Bassac Cruise

An overnight stay aboard the Bassac is not simply somewhere to sleep, but an integral part of the Mekong Delta experience. You’ll sail between Cai Be and Can Tho along the delta’s rivers and canals, as life along the water slowly drifts past.

The welcoming crew will take excellent care of you on board, while an English-speaking guide shares insights into life and experiences in the Mekong Delta.

The Bassac fleet consists of two boats, Bassac II and Bassac III. Which one you travel on depends on availability at the time of booking. Both boats are built from wood, following the same traditions as the rice barges that have sailed the rivers of the Mekong Delta for generations. They are approximately 32 metres long and accommodate 20 and 24 guests respectively, helping to create a cosy atmosphere on board.

Both boats feature several shared areas spread across two decks, including a restaurant, bar, and lounge, as well as a covered area on the upper deck. The restaurant serves freshly prepared dishes made with ingredients from the Mekong Delta, which you can enjoy alongside freshly squeezed juice made from fruit grown in the delta. In this way, you’ll take a taste of the Mekong Delta with you on your tour. At the front of the upper deck is the sun deck, where you can relax on a sun lounger and watch life along the river unfold.

You’ll spend the night in your own cabin, with either a double bed or two single beds. The cabins are small and feature wood throughout. They have air conditioning and a private bathroom with a shower, as well as hot and cold water. There are also clothes hangers, a water bottle, a torch, and an electric mosquito repellent for the plug socket.

At the end of the day, find a spot on deck and enjoy the sunset over the delta as the last boats of the day glide past along the river.

All that’s left to do is sit back and enjoy the journey. The river and life along its banks are a constant part of the experience, and that’s precisely what makes spending the night on the Mekong Delta so special.
