Bridge walk on Sydney Harbour Bridge

The first civilian ever to take a bridge climb on the Sydney Harbour Bridge was nine-year-old Kenneth Jones. This was back in 1932 – just a few days after the bridge’s official opening. It would, however, take another 66 years before a bridge climb on the Sydney Harbour Bridge became an experience open to everyone. On 1 October 1998, BridgeClimb officially opened, and since then millions of people have walked to the very top of the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge.

They do it for the view. From the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, you stand 134 metres above Sydney Harbour, rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the Opera House, the harbour, and the city skyline. On a clear day, you can even see all the way to the Blue Mountains!

They do it for the challenge – imagine standing on top of the world’s largest steel arch bridge!

They do it for that heart-pounding moment when they stand beneath the Australian flag at the summit of the bridge.

Before taking part in the bridge climb, you'll receive a thorough safety briefing, during which all equipment is provided. You'll be breathalysed, and all loose items must be handed in and stored in secure lockers (including cameras and phones). You’ll also need to pass through a metal detector before clipping your harness onto the bridge and beginning your climb to the top.

At the end of the tour, you’ll receive a photo of you and your group at the summit – and, of course, the official BridgeClimb cap!
