What does it really mean when a tour operator claims they are consciously working towards responsibility and sustainability? Isn’t there a contradiction between flying people to the other side of the world and stating that you’re trying to consider responsible and sustainable solutions?
Yes, is the short answer.
No, it doesn’t have to be that way, is the correct answer.
At TourCompass, we are committed to an ambitious and long-term sustainability strategy. We strive to operate our business responsibly and create meaningful adventures. For several years, we have worked on various UN Sustainable Development Goals, as we believe we have a unique opportunity to contribute positively to the social and environmental development of the many countries we tour.
The climate and environmental challenges we face are enormous. We are well aware of our shared responsibility. Therefore, we have aligned with the climate goals of the Paris Agreement and prepare a carbon footprint report every year. We have a clear and highly ambitious plan for how we can help reduce CO2 emissions.
In terms of the environment, we primarily focus on biodiversity, specifically animal welfare and endangered natural areas. But it is on the social front that we can truly make a difference. Many of our tours visit places where people don’t have the same standard of living as we do in our everyday lives. Through our tours, we help create jobs, stimulate economic growth, increase educational opportunities, and improve living conditions. We call them adventures with purpose.
We select partners who actively work to make a difference in regard to nature conservation, climate and environmental improvements, or local community support in the areas we tour. We also actively support numerous projects that contribute to creating a positive impact on the world. That’s precisely what tours can achieve—creating positive impacts for both those who are experiencing and those who create the experiences.

UN Global Compact
TourCompass is a member of UN Global Compact. This is a global network of businesses and organisations that are obligated to work with ten principles in human rights, employee rights, climate & the environment, and anti-corruption, in addition to contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. As a member of UN Global Compact, we are obligated to make annual reports on our efforts involving the ten principles and to describe how we as a business have contributed to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals over the course of the year.
Science Based Targets
At TourCompass, we have a climate target that is ambitious, to put it simply. We’ve signed onto the Paris Agreement, and we are making targeted efforts to reduce our CO2 emissions, both direct and indirect. We’re therefore very proud to be certified under Science Based Targets.
