Discover the incredible marine life of Moreton Island – without even getting wet! From the comfort of a glass-bottom boat, you can spot colourful fish, dolphins and sea turtles. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a dugong.
Moreton Island, also known as Mulgumpin, is one of the largest sand islands in the world. It’s especially famous for its sweeping sandy beaches, towering dunes, crystal-clear lagoons and the rich marine wildlife surrounding the island.
From Brisbane, you’ll be driven to the harbour, where a catamaran ferry will take you across to Tangalooma Island Resort on Moreton Island. The scenic crossing over Moreton Bay takes around 75 minutes.
On arrival, you’ll be welcomed by a host who will brief you on the day’s itinerary, including the departure time for your Marine Discovery boat trip.
Look forward to learning more about the fascinating underwater world of the area as you peer through the glass floor at colourful fish, sea turtles and other captivating marine creatures. Along the way, your guide and captain will share stories about the local wildlife and help you spot them in their natural habitat.
The tour also passes by the iconic shipwrecks off Tangalooma Island Resort. These wrecks were deliberately sunk between 1963 and 1984 to create a sheltered harbour, but today they form artificial reefs that are home to an impressive array of marine life and one of Australia’s most popular snorkelling sites.
Tangalooma Island Resort serves as your base for this tour, and following the boat trip, you can enjoy lunch at one of the resort’s restaurants. The tour includes a lunch voucher worth AUD 25 per adult and AUD 20 per child, which can be redeemed at the restaurants. You are also welcome to use the resort’s pool, toilets and changing facilities throughout the day.
The rest of the day is at your leisure. The resort features an activity centre where you can purchase optional excursions or hire kayaks and paddleboards. All activities are offered subject to availability.
Of course, you may prefer to simply relax, take a stroll along the beautiful beach, or soak up the sun by the water.
At 4 p.m., you sail back to Brisbane after a day full of sunshine, sea and nature experiences. Upon arrival, you will be transferred back to central Brisbane.
This day trip is suitable for all ages and is an excellent choice for families or anyone wishing to experience Moreton Island’s fascinating marine life without getting into the water themselves.
