In 2007, UNESCO added the Sydney Opera House to its prestigious World Heritage list, joining landmarks such as the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, and many others of the world’s most iconic attractions. For many years, however, it was a much-criticised construction project. When Sydney’s famous opera house was finally completed in 1973, its budget had been exceeded by a staggering 1,357%.

Decide for yourself whether it was worth the money on this guided tour of the Danish architect Jørn Utzon’s stunning masterpiece.

The Opera House is one of the world’s busiest performing arts centres, hosting more than 2,000 performances each year. There’s always something happening here, so what you see and which areas you can access on your tour may vary from time to time, depending on availability.

Starting and finishing point: Sydney Opera House, Welcome Centre Lower Concourse (address and time can be found on your voucher). Please note that you are responsible for your own transport to and from the start and finish point. You must arrive at least 15 minutes before the tour begins.

Duration: Approx. 1 hour.

Difficulty level:  On this guided tour, you will walk up to 2.5 km and climb roughly 300 steps up and down. There is no lift or escalator access, and there are limited opportunities to sit down and rest along the way.
