Join the ultimate The Lord of the Rings guided excursion around Wellington, where you’ll step behind the scenes of the iconic filming locations and visit the workshop that brought Tolkien’s world to life. The first stop on the tour is the viewpoint on Mount Victoria, where you can enjoy a stunning panoramic view across Wellington. From here, the tour continues to several of the well-known filming spots on Mount Victoria, including the place where the hobbits hide under a tree from the Black Riders, and the area where King Théoden’s army makes camp.

Here, you’ll gain an exclusive insight into how the films were created and see how the workshop’s artists crafted props, costumes and sets. Following the tour, you’ll have the chance to buy souvenirs in the Wētā Cave or take photos with some of Wētā’s iconic statues, such as Gollum or the trolls from Bilbo’s adventure. The excursion ends with a drive past the Embassy Theatre, the historic cinema restored by Peter Jackson for the world premieres of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012).
