Join us on an exciting train journey that takes you through some of the most significant places in world history – historically, politically and culturally. It is an easy train itinerary, where you make stops in the middle of four separate cities on the American East Coast: Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York City and Boston.
The tour starts in Washington D.C. – also known as the political epicentre of the United States. Look forward to a guided tour of the city’s historic landmarks such as The White House, Congress and the huge statue of Abraham Lincoln.
From D.C., one of the East Coast’s overlooked gems, Philadelphia, awaits you. This charming coastal city was completely central in the formation of the modern United States, as it was here that Thomas Jefferson drafted the United States’ Declaration of Independence. The city oozes life, a proud local community and charming city life with plenty of opportunities for unwinding and getting close to the Americans and history.
At the next stop, culture of the very highest calibre awaits you in the city that never sleeps: New York City. Here you will discover the city from several perspectives - you will see it from high up in one of the city’s iconic landmarks, Rockefeller Center, and you will also enjoy the beautiful sight of the city’s skyscrapers from the water side when you go on a cruise of southern Manhattan, where you get close to the Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge. Exciting days await you in this vibrant metropolis. With plenty of time on your own, you have ample opportunity to relax in Central Park, go to museums or discover the many hidden gems of the city.
Boston completes the tour with insight into key events of both the American Revolution and the independence of the United States such as the protest action, the Boston Tea Party. You can also follow in the city’s historic footsteps on the Freedom Trail or just enjoy your time in this charming city.
You have the option to extend the tour with more nights along the way. You can also extend the tour with a stop in the southern city of New Orleans or with a beach holiday in Florida.
Today you embark on your American adventure. You fly from your chosen airport heading for Washington D.C. After arrival, you collect your luggage and go through immigration.
In the arrivals hall, you follow the signs to your preferred means of transport to downtown Washington D.C., where you will be staying. It is up to you how to get to the hotel, but the options are many and easily accessible. You can, for example, use the metro, which is accessed from the terminal and can take you close to your hotel. You can also take an Uber/Lyft or a regular taxi.
After check-in at the hotel, you have the rest of the day at your own disposal. It is up to you whether you want to relax after the journey or go out for a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants in the area.
It is highly recommended to order a refreshment at the hotel’s bar and go to the pool area, from where you can see Congress, also called the U.S. Capitol, appear beautifully between the rooftops of the city. In fact, you are staying right in the ‘centre of power’ – and, as the name of Congress indicates, the capital of the United States.
The day probably starts early in these new latitudes, where you quickly adjust to the time difference. Get up and visit the hotel’s bistro, where you can buy breakfast, or take the opportunity to go to a local breakfast café so that you are well refuelled before the day’s adventure really begins.
This morning, you will be shown the highlights of the city on a guided tour in an electric mini-van with a small group of up to six participants. You will find details of the meeting time and place for the tour on your voucher, and you should not miss out on the beautiful walk of approx. 1.4 km to the meeting point. The walk takes you through the city’s iconic park, National Mall, where, for example, you will get a view of both the tall Washington Monument and U.S. Capitol.
With this morning’s guided tour, you not only get an overview of the city’s attractions – you also get the historical perspective. The tour will take you to the Korean War Memorial – a beautiful, sculptural and lifelike memorial that will make your hair stand on end. And look forward to standing in front of the large statue of former President Abraham Lincoln, which appears between the pillars of the Lincoln Memorial. From here, you get a beautiful view of the iconic long Reflecting Pool, in which you can see the 169-metre tall Washington monument reflected in the water. From here, the tour passes by the President’s home, the White House, followed by a stop at Congress, where legislation is passed.
After a few hours in the footsteps of power and history, there are undoubtedly some places you would like to see or revisit. You have the rest of the day at your own disposal.
If you are interested in art and culture, Washington D.C. is the right place to be. Most of the city’s largest museums are located like pearls on a string in the area around National Mall. Among the most popular are the National Air & Space Museum, the Smithsonian & Natural History, all within walking distance of your hotel. And as an added plus, D.C. is known for having free admission to the vast majority of publicly owned museums (there may be exceptions).
This evening, we recommend that you end the day with a nice dinner in the charming area of Georgetown, followed by a stop at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which shines beautifully in the dark.

Today you will leave Washington D.C. and head for one of the East Coast’s overlooked gems: Philadelphia.
Take an Uber or taxi to Union Station in D.C., which is just a few kilometres from your hotel. Please make sure to arrive in due time before departure – from Washington D.C. no later than 30 minutes before (details of meeting time, place and departure are provided on your voucher.) The train ride to Philadelphia takes just under two hours, so sit back in your seat and watch the scenery pass by en route.
Upon your arrival in Philadelphia, you will discover that you are right in the city centre and just a few kilometres from your hotel. It is up to you whether you want to use the Metro, Uber or just walk to the hotel. If you arrive before check-in, the hotel can help you store your luggage while you can go out to explore the city at your own pace.
‘Philly’, as the city is called by Americans, is the original American capital and oozes history and charm with cobbled streets and red-brick colonial-style houses. You will be staying close to the historic streets, which are packed with small shops, cafés and restaurants, and when you are in Philly, you should not miss out on tasting the local sandwich celebrity: Philly cheese steak sandwich.
Your central location in the city means you can get the most out of the day. If you did not visit National Historical Park yesterday, you should do so today. Here you will find the Liberty Bell, which weighs just under one tonne, as well as Independence Hall, where Thomas Jefferson drafted the United States’ Declaration of Independence, signed on 4 July 1776. If you are in the United States on 4 July, you cannot fail to notice it – almost everywhere you will find the American flag, festively dressed people and big parades.
It is said that the American flag was created here in Philadelphia, and in Betsy Ross House you can get the story of Betsy who sewed the first American flag, which was later presented to the first President of the United States, George Washington.
Proceed to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where you will see people with their arms raised in the air and flexed upper arms at Rocky Steps, which you may recognise from the famous Rocky movies.

Power, history – and now money and culture. On a big scale. Ahead of you is, in fact, a stay in New York City, also known as The Big Apple.
You will leave Philadelphia from the same train station at which you arrived*, and just 1.5 hours later, you can get off the train at Penn Station and find yourself in the middle of New York’s vibrant streets.
On arrival, you start by going to the hotel, which is located relatively close to the train station. If your room is not ready for check-in, the hotel can store your luggage for you.
This afternoon, you will take a trip high up with a visit to the iconic building, Rockefeller Center, where you have an admission ticket to three incredible observation decks on the 67th, 69th and 70th floors (The ticket is open for the next available time, but we recommend that you show up during the afternoon. Address and opening hours are stated on your voucher.) From the hotel, you can either take a taxi or you can walk the short walk there. From the observation deck, you will have a breathtaking encounter with the city that never sleeps as you stand high above the city’s rooftops and skyscrapers with panoramic views of everything from the iconic Empire State Building, Chrysler Building and Central Park to the Statue of Liberty.
The rest of the day is at your leisure, and we highly recommend visiting one of the city’s many eateries. Conclude your evening like a local by visiting one of the many blues or jazz bars in the area around NOHO.

The day kicks off with an unforgettable cruise that takes you around the southern part of Manhattan (Your voucher will state the meeting place and possible departure times, and you must show up at the stated address no later than 45 minutes before your chosen departure.)
Somewhere on the horizon, you will begin to see one of America’s most iconic landmarks: The Statue of Liberty. The statue was donated by France to the United States in 1885 in honour of the two countries’ alliance during the American Revolution and to recognise America as a freedom-fighting country. Later, she became a symbol of freedom and hope for the new travellers arriving by sea. From the Statue of Liberty, the cruise continues past One World Trade Center and onwards under the historic Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge. From here you will have a fabulous view of the New York skyline. Only when you see the skyscrapers from a distance can you really comprehend their enormous size. The tour ends at the starting point, and now that you have formed an overview, there may be places that you would like to visit on land. It is up to you, as the rest of the day is at your own disposal.
It is highly recommended to walk or cycle the beautiful trip to the borough of Brooklyn via the famous bridge of love, Brooklyn Bridge, and possibly return via Manhattan Bridge. On the Brooklyn side, you can enjoy a refreshment with views of the city from the DUMBO area, which is located between the two bridges.
You can also consider a lunch stop in Central Park – an almost sacred oasis in the middle of one of the world’s largest cities. Here you will meet local New Yorkers who are out for a walk, school groups on excursions, artists who are painting the surroundings, while others are sailing in the rowboats at Central Park Boathouse. It is also here in the park at Strawberry Fields that you will find the John Lennon memorial in the form of a beautiful mosaic stone called ‘Imagine’.
The day can appropriately be concluded in the best cultural fashion with a Broadway show (book well in advance).
The content and pace of the day are up to you. If you missed out on Central Park and a walk across Brooklyn Bridge yesterday, you should consider it today.

SoHo has café life and small shops; Chinatown tempts you with dumplings and colours. You get off at South Station in the centre of Boston, from where you can proceed to the hotel and leave your luggage. With the central location of the hotel, you can make the most of your time in the city. The rest of the day is at your own disposal, and there are plenty of opportunities for exploring the charming and historic streets of the area.
Boston is one of the most important cities in American history. In the 1770s, the city was the centre of a large number of decisive protests and revolutionary events such as the Boston Tea Party and the Slaughter at Bunker Hill, all of which contributed to inciting the American Revolution and subsequent independence.
You should already today follow in the historical footsteps of the famous ‘Freedom Trail’. The starting point is just 800 metres from your hotel. The trail is approx. 4 km long, and if you follow the red line on the road, you will pass 16 historical stops related to the independence of the United States.

Today, you can explore charming Boston on your own.
You can take inspiration from the below excursions, which make it possible to get even deeper under the skin of the history with a visit to the interactive museum, Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum, where you can, for example, see a reproduction of the famous Tea Party protest against British tax sanctions, where as much as 45 tonnes of tea bags were thrown into the sea.
Boston is also known for its baseball arena, Fenway Park, and not least for its food scene, particularly seafood.

The airport is located close to the city centre, so you can easily take an Uber or public transport directly from the city centre to the airport.
