Arrival in Australia

Welcome Down Under!

You’ll arrive in Brisbane, where transport from the airport to your hotel has been arranged. If your room isn’t ready when you arrive, you can store your luggage at the hotel and head out to get your first impressions of the city.

Brisbane is the capital of Queensland and one of Australia’s most laid-back cities. Life moves at a more relaxed pace here than in Sydney or Melbourne, yet the city is still full of energy, culture, and exciting things to experience. It strikes a perfect balance between urban life and nature, with a friendly, easy-going atmosphere that quickly makes you feel at home.

Founded as a penal colony in the 1820s, Brisbane has grown into a modern metropolis stretching along the Brisbane River, which winds its way through the city centre and adds to its unique character.

In the heart of the city, you’ll find the pedestrian shopping street Queen Street Mall – one of Brisbane’s key spots for shopping and socialising. With its mix of shops, cafés, and lively atmosphere from morning till night, it’s the perfect place to begin exploring the city.

Brisbane also has plenty to offer when it comes to gastronomy. Enjoy a delicious meal along the river in areas such as Eagle Street or South Bank, where restaurants and cafés create a cosy atmosphere with views over the Brisbane River.

Day 3
Walking tour of Brisbane

Today, you’ll explore Brisbane on foot on a guided city tour that offers a fascinating insight into the city’s history, culture, and modern development. The tour is led by a knowledgeable guide who’ll share stories and give you an authentic glimpse into life in Australia’s third-largest city.

The tour begins in the heart of Brisbane, at Queen Street (you’ll need to make your own way to the meeting point), where you’ll be introduced to the city’s colonial history and the impact of British settlement on the area’s Indigenous peoples, the Turrbal and Jagera. Along the way, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of Brisbane’s transformation – from a penal colony to a modern metropolis, now preparing to host the Olympic Games in 2032.

Together with your guide, you’ll explore both the city’s famous landmarks and its hidden gems. Follow the Brisbane River through the city centre with views towards the South Bank Parklands, passing the new Queen’s Wharf development. Along the way, you’ll see Brisbane City Hall, Story Bridge, Brisbane Arcade, and the Regent Theatre, as well as Anzac Square, Post Office Square, Burnett Lane, The Commissariat Store, and the historic Frog’s Hollow district. The tour also takes you through charming laneways decorated with colourful murals, street art, and creative urban design, all contributing to the city’s distinctive atmosphere.

There’s plenty of time to ask questions along the way, and your guide will be happy to share tips on restaurants, cafés, and attractions for you to explore later on your own.

The tour ends with a refreshing drink by the Brisbane River overlooking the iconic Story Bridge, after which the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure.

Day 4
Brisbane at your own pace

Enjoy a free day to explore Brisbane at your own rhythm or choose to join an additional excursion.

Perhaps you’d like to experience the city from above – either by climbing Story Bridge or from the free Sky Deck viewing platform at Queen’s Wharf, where you can enjoy an impressive panoramic view of Brisbane, the Brisbane River, and the city skyline from 100 metres up.

You can also take a trip along the river on one of the popular CityCat ferries, which connect the city’s different neighbourhoods, or explore the charming riverside promenades on foot or by bike.

If you haven’t yet visited South Bank Parklands, we can highly recommend a visit. Here you can relax in green surroundings or cool off with a dip at the man-made Streets Beach, where white sand and a sparkling lagoon create a tropical atmosphere right in the heart of the city.

In the area, you’ll also find the Queensland Art Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art. The museums often offer free entry to their permanent collections, while temporary exhibitions usually require an admission fee.

South Bank is also full of life, with cafés, restaurants, locals, and visitors bringing a vibrant buzz to the area.

You can also visit Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, the world’s oldest and largest koala reserve, where you can get close to Australia’s unique wildlife, including koalas, kangaroos, and wombats.

If you’d like to escape the bustle of the city for a bit, Lamington National Park as well as the islands of Moreton Island and North Stradbroke Island are perfect day trip destinations, offering stunning nature, abundant wildlife, and beautiful beaches.

Day 5
Flights from Brisbane to Sydney

It’s time to bid farewell to Brisbane, as your next stop on the tour is Australia’s largest city – Sydney! You’ll be picked up from your hotel and driven to the airport. The flight to Sydney takes approximately 1½ hours.

Upon arrival in Sydney, you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. If your room isn’t ready when you arrive, you can leave your luggage in storage and head out to explore the city.

A great way to start is with a walk down to Bennelong Point, where the city’s iconic Opera House sits beautifully with the Harbour Bridge as its backdrop.

Just west of the Opera House lies the historic district of The Rocks, home to charming old buildings, cosy cafés, as well as stylish shops and art galleries. You may also wish to continue to Barangaroo Reserve, where you can experience Sydney Harbour – the world’s largest natural harbour – from a whole new angle.

Along Sydney’s waterfront, you’ll find a wealth of restaurants, cafés, and bars. Areas such as Circular Quay, King Street Wharf, and Darling Harbour are popular choices, offering you the chance to enjoy a delicious meal paired with stunning views of the harbour and the city’s iconic skyline.

Day 6
City tour of Sydney

To give you a great first impression of Sydney, we’ve included a half-day guided city tour where you’ll discover some of the city’s most famous attractions, green parks, and stunning stretches of coastline. Along the way, you’ll also get a feel for some of Sydney’s many fascinating districts and suburbs, each adding its own character to this vibrant city.

During the tour, you’ll pass landmarks such as the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Royal Botanic Garden, The Rocks, Darling Harbour, Hyde Park, Chinatown, and Bondi Beach. Here, you’ll have time at your own leisure to soak up the relaxed seaside vibe, watch surfers ride the waves, or enjoy a cup of coffee overlooking the iconic beach.

The city tour begins from your hotel or a nearby pick-up point (see details on your voucher) and ends at Circular Quay. From here, you can easily continue exploring – perhaps with a visit to the Opera House, located just next door, or a leisurely lunch cruise on Sydney Harbour.

Circular Quay is also the city’s bustling ferry terminal and the starting point for ferries to the surrounding suburbs. For example, take the ferry to the beautiful Manly Beach and enjoy the rest of the day by the sea, or visit Taronga Zoo, one of Australia’s most famous zoological gardens. Here you can encounter animals from around the world – including Australia’s own unique wildlife such as kangaroos, koalas, echidnas, and the fascinating platypus.

Day 7–8
Sydney at your own pace

The next few days are yours to explore Sydney at your own pace. The city offers everything from world-famous attractions and vibrant cultural experiences to stunning beaches and scenic surroundings.

If you’re interested in art, culture, and history, Sydney boasts several remarkable museums. Visit the Australian Museum to learn more about Australia’s nature and wildlife, discover the city’s history at the Museum of Sydney, explore modern art at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, or delve into Australia’s maritime heritage at the Australian National Maritime Museum.

If you’d rather head outdoors, the popular coastal walk between Coogee and Bondi is a perfect choice. The roughly 7 km route runs along the coastline, passing dramatic cliff formations, charming coves, and some of Sydney’s most beloved beaches.

Another spot worth visiting is the new Sydney Fish Market at Blackwattle Bay, where you can taste freshly caught fish and seafood and soak up the lively atmosphere along the harbourfront.

If you’re looking to experience even more, you can purchase a range of optional excursions both in and outside Sydney. For example, choose between guided walking and cycling tours in the city or day trips to the spectacular Blue Mountains and Hunter Valley, Australia’s oldest and most famous wine region.

And sometimes the best experiences are the simplest ones. Grab a sandwich, find a spot in the Royal Botanic Garden, and enjoy the view of the Opera House and Sydney Harbour as the sun slowly sets over the city.

See the excursion options below. We recommend booking them along with your tour, as they often sell out quickly.

Day 9
Flight from Sydney to Melbourne

You are transported from the hotel to the airport, from which you will fly to the last metropolis on the tour; Melbourne. On your arrival in Melbourne, you’re transported to the hotel.

As in the other two cities, you can have your luggage stored if the room isn’t ready for you on your arrival.

Just as when you travelled from Brisbane to Sydney, today you will also experience a huge contrast between Sydney and Melbourne. Sydney is bright, open and – with all its tourists – very international. Melbourne is chilled, cultural and has a great culinary scene!

Spend the rest of the day exploring the city. It has come excellent shops if you’re looking to take a good souvenir home with you. You can easily while away a couple of hours at Queen Victoria Market.

If you’d like to explore the exciting culinary scene, you should head north of the city to the areas around Fitzroy and Carlton.

You might also like to stroll along the Yarra River, which flows through the city. The entire area around the South Bank is packed with restaurants, bars and trendy shops, and this is also where you’ll find the large Crown Casino.

Day 10
Guided tour of Melbourne

In the morning, a guided tour of Melbourne’s hidden streets and laneways awaits. You must make your way to the start of the tour on your own. The location is written on your voucher. The tour takes you into the inner, narrow streets of the city centre, where designers and architects reside alongside quirky cafés. The walls are adorned with street art, and the narrow alleys exude history and tales from the days when things were not quite as hipster here.

Take it all in and pick the places you wish to return to. Feel free to ask the guide for recommendations for cafés or restaurants.

The afternoon is yours – possibly to get lost in the narrow streets.

You can also take the tram to the seaside suburb of St Kilda. If you head out here late afternoon, you might be lucky enough to see the small colony of pygmy penguins come ashore around sunset.

The entire state of Victoria also has many exciting and interesting sights to offer, so if you fancy getting out of the city for a bit, you can choose to purchase an excursion. How about a trip along one of the world’s most beautiful coastlines on the Great Ocean Road? Or perhaps a visit to the Yarra Valley wine region?

City holiday in Singapore

From £569 pp including flights

Children under 12 years from £429

Single room supplement from £199

Extend your tour to include an exciting city break to Singapore and be blown away by the state-of-the-art metropolis of the East.

Covering an area of just 721.5 km2, the island state is South-east Asia’s smallest country, and what the small, well-developed country lacks in size, it more than makes up for in experiences.

Look forward to experiencing the architectural Marina Bay Sands, stroll around the green oasis Gardens by the Bay, shop to your heart’s content on Orchard Road, drink Singapore Slings at Raffles Hotel and ride in the 165-metre-high ferris wheel, the Singapore Flyer, which offers a phenomenal view of all the futuristic skyscrapers and the harbour.

What also makes Singapore so cool is that it is a melting pot of cultures, and people live with respect for and an understanding of one another, with Buddhist temples, mosques, churches and Hindu temples side by side. Singapore’s diversity can be experienced in the charming districts of Little India, China Town and the Arabic and Malay quarter, Kampong Glam. Soak in the atmosphere while being seduced by the wonderful, colourful buildings and the aroma of spices and jasmine.

The multicultural community is also reflected in the many culinary delights on offer around the city. If you’re into authentic street food, you can visit one of the famous hawker centres, or, if upscale Michelin restaurants are more your thing, make your way to the special food street, Keong Saik Road, and discover some of Singapore’s best restaurants.

Other popular and hip neighbourhoods are the colourful Haji Lane in Kampong Glam and the Art Deco area, Tiong Bahru. Both neighbourhoods are known for their cosy cafés, exciting restaurants and shops as well as wonderful street art.

In stark contrast to the vibrant city life is Sentosa Island, a small island which offers lovely sandy beaches and countless sights and activities for the whole family such as Universal Studios and various adventure parks.

Does Singapore sound tempting?

The extension includes a 3-night hotel stay with breakfast, flight to Singapore and transfers.

Experience the sun going down and rising over Uluru and go for a walk at Kata Tjuta. Learn more about the flora and fauna, and especially about why this area is so important to the Aboriginal people.

Lean your head back and enjoy the sight of the vast starry sky, which is only minimally disturbed by artificial light.

And it’s not just kangaroos you’ll find here. Untouched nature, scenic landscapes, unique wildlife, doable distances – Kangaroo Island has it all!

You start off with a couple of days in the small city of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia and the gateway to Kangaroo Island.

Adelaide stands out for its cosiness.

It’s quite simply a city where you think, “I could live here”.
