Costa Rica – At one with nature

With its lush rainforests, spectacular volcanoes and beautiful beaches, Costa Rica is a veritable paradise for nature lovers. February is in the middle of the dry season in Costa Rica, and the sunny, relatively dry weather makes it a popular month to travel there.
Explore Costa Rica’s impressive wildlife in some of the country’s beautiful National Parks, such as Tortuguero, Corcovado, and Rincón de la Vieja, and experience its spectacular nature on a walk among the treetops in Monteverde’s cloud forest or to Arenal Volcano.
February is also an excellent time to combine Costa Rica with Panama, where it is the dry season too. Sunny days and clear skies create the perfect conditions for experiencing the country’s greatest attraction, the Panama Canal, which connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
3 reasons to visit Costa Rica in February:
- In the middle of the dry season
- It may be easier to spot the animals gathering around fewer watering holes.
- A great time to combine with Panama
Sri Lanka – temples, tea plantations and tropical beaches

February in Sri Lanka brings mild weather, making it an ideal time to explore the country’s many highlights.
Due to the country’s geographical location close to the Equator, there is a risk of showers all year round. However, February is typically a dry month across much of the country, particularly in southern, western, and central Sri Lanka.
February is therefore an excellent month to climb Little Adam’s Peak or Lion Rock, Sigiriya, as there is less a chance of muddy, slippery paths, and rainy views.
If you love wildlife, February is also an excellent month to go on safari in Sri Lanka, as you may spot leopards (if you’re lucky), elephants, bears, and more. If you’re visiting Mirissa, you can also go whale watching – February falls right in the middle of whale-watching season on Sri Lanka’s south coast, when you may be lucky enough to see dolphins and blue whales, for example.
Sri Lanka’s National Day also falls on 4 February and is celebrated throughout the country with ceremonies, parades, and other festivities, marking Sri Lanka’s independence from British colonial rule in 1948.
Dreaming of the ultimate finale? The island paradise of the Maldives is just a one-and-a-half-hour flight from Sri Lanka, making it ideal to combine the two destinations. February is the dry season in the Maldives, bringing good weather conditions and excellent underwater visibility for snorkelling and diving.
3 reasons to visit Sri Lanka in February:
- Warm temperatures that give you a nice break from the winter cold
- Whale season on the south coast, where you may be lucky enough to see blue whales
- A great time to combine Sri Lanka and the Maldives
Uganda – The land of the breathtaking mountain gorillas

Uganda, also known as the Pearl of Africa, offers some of Africa’s most scenic landscapes, as well as the opportunity for some unique nature and wildlife experiences.
February is in the middle of one of Uganda’s dry seasons, when you can expect blue skies, sunshine and lush, green vegetation.
The country offers safaris in Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you may be lucky enough to spot leopards, hyenas, lions, elephants and antelopes. February is at the end of the dry season, meaning that months without rain cause animals to congregate around the few remaining waterholes.
In Uganda, you also have a unique opportunity to see the mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, where almost half of the world’s free-living population lives. Gorilla tracking with experienced rangers is an absolute highlight in Uganda. February is one of the best months to go gorilla tracking as the dry season makes the trails less muddy.
3 reasons to visit Uganda in February:
- Dry season with blue skies, sunshine and less rain
- It’s easy to spot wildlife on safari in, for example, Queen Elizabeth National Park
- Good time for Gorilla tracking. It’s less physically demanding as the trails are not as muddy
New Zealand – Late-summer vibes on the adventure islands

When the calendar reaches February in New Zealand, it is the country’s final month of summer. The days are still long and pleasantly warm, making it an ideal time to explore the country – for example, on a self-drive tour, where you can let the road lead you from one spectacular natural experience to the next.
On the North Island, you can drive through rolling green hills, geothermal landscapes, and areas of hot springs, where steam rises from the ground. Along the way, you’ll also encounter Māori culture, charming towns, and beautiful stretches of coastline. On the South Island, the landscapes become more dramatic, with alpine roads, crystal-clear lakes, glaciers, and fjords where the mountains are reflected in the water.
New Zealand’s national day, Waitangi Day, is also celebrated every year on 6 February. The day commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840, which is now considered the founding document of New Zealand. Celebrations take place across the country throughout the day, with the largest held at the Treaty Grounds, where the treaty was signed, north of Auckland. Cities such as Rotorua, Wellington, and Christchurch also host family-friendly activities throughout the day.

In Cape Town, you can take the cable car up Table Mountain, stroll along the V&A Waterfront, or enjoy the views from Cape Point. Continuing along the scenic Garden Route, you’ll encounter a wealth of experiences, including dramatic coastlines, beautiful lagoons, caves, and breathtaking viewpoints.
Many people also choose to combine Cape Town with a safari in Kruger National Park, where the birdlife is particularly spectacular in February, when migratory birds make their way to the park. Summer’s high humidity can bring some heavy rain showers, but this has a wonderful benefit for your tour: the landscape in Kruger takes on a very special beauty, with lush, green vegetation.

The warm weather and many hours of sunshine make it almost essential to combine your tour with a beach holiday, for example on the popular Playa del Carmen or the picturesque island of Isla Holbox. We also recommend exploring Mexico’s many fascinating cenotes, where you can cool off in underground pools.
The country’s numerous historic attractions also welcome you with blue skies, including the Mayan ruin Chichen Itza, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of Mexico’s greatest sights.

Tanzania – Action on the savannah

February is a fantastic month to experience Tanzania, where safari and beach life go hand in hand.
On the savannah in the Serengeti, you'll have excellent opportunities to witness nature’s harsh yet fascinating cycle of life. The many wildebeest give birth between January and March, and their young are vulnerable to predators in the area. You may therefore be lucky enough to see lions and other predators hunting at close quarters.
Tanzania’s birdlife is also wonderful to experience in February. Resident birds are building their nests, while many birds from Europe and North Africa migrate to Tanzania between November and March to escape the winter cold. February is one of the warmest months of the year in Tanzania, making it the perfect time to combine your safari holiday with a beach holiday in Zanzibar, where the beautiful beaches offer you a warm welcome.
As well as its beaches, Zanzibar is home to its cultural heart: the historic town of Stone Town, which enchants visitors with its winding streets, local markets, Arabic squares, and beautiful mosques.
If you haven’t quite had your fill of safari experiences, Zanzibar also has a National Park for you to explore. Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park is home to the very rare red colobus monkey, which is found only here.
3 reasons to visit Tanzania in February:

- A great time to combine with Zanzibar
Vietnam – Fascinating nature and culture

Head off on adventure through Vietnam’s picturesque landscapes and discover the country’s rich history and culture.
In February, most of Vietnam is in its dry season, with clear skies and pleasant, mild temperatures in most places. February is one of the ‘cooler’ months in Vietnam, and although it can be a little chilly and quite misty at times in the north – for example, in the mountainous areas around Sapa – you can generally expect warm temperatures across Vietnam.
Experience Central Vietnam’s beautiful attractions in glorious sunshine, such as the colonial town of Hoi An, which charms visitors with its old quarter, listed on the UNESCO world heritage list. Or look forward to discovering Vietnam’s largest city, Ho Chi Minh City, with its blend of modern skyscrapers and colonial buildings. From here, you can also explore the Mekong Delta’s lush waterways and small local communities before rounding off your tour with a beach holiday on the beautiful beaches of southern Vietnam, for example in Mui Ne or on the island of Phu Quoc.
The Vietnamese New Year, the Tet festival, begins on 6 February 2027. Many locals travel during this time, so demand for transport and hotels increases. However, if you are staying in Vietnam during Tet, you can look forward to experiencing this major celebration, which culminates in a fascinating dragon procession.
3 reasons to visit Vietnam in February:

Mountains, deserts, beaches, jungle – Colombia has it all, and February is an excellent month to explore the country’s diversity and varied nature. It’s the dry season and you can expect sunny days with warm weather – depending on how high up you are.
In the Andes, you’ll find three of Colombia’s exciting areas. The country’s capital, Bogotá, is a wonderful mix of modern architecture and old colonial-era buildings that ooze history. Located in the Andes at 2,600 m.a.s.l., the city offers spring-like daytime temperatures all year round. In Medellín, you can experience the city’s fascinating transformation from drug cartel capital to innovative metropolis. And in the Coffee Region, you’ll see scenic, lush landscapes and gain an insight into coffee production on a coffee farm.
February is also a good time to trek to the impressive Lost City, built by the Tayrona people in around 800 AD. At this time of year, the trails are dry, making it easier to hike.
3 reasons to visit Colombia in February:
- Dry season with sunny days
- Pleasant climate for hiking in rainforest or mountains
- Good time to trek to the Lost City as the trails are dry.
Laos – Asia’s hidden gem

As an Asian destination, Laos receives fewer visitors than Thailand and Vietnam, for example, but is nevertheless a completely unique travel destination. February is in the middle of the dry season, which generally means many hours of sunshine and very little rainfall.
In Laos, you’ll find fairy-tale landscapes and welcoming local people. Explore the former royal city of Luang Prabang, lined with French colonial buildings with Laotian features. You can also enjoy nature on a boat trip on the Mekong River or a visit to the scenic Kuang Si Falls.
February is a good time of the year to combine Laos with a tour to Cambodia and Vietnam, which together make up the former Indochina. It’s also dry season in Cambodia and Vietnam in February.

Kenya – Scenic safari landscapes

Kenya is a fantastic safari destination all year round, offering an exciting blend of breathtaking scenery and fascinating African wildlife.
Many visitors enjoy travelling to Kenya in February. It is the dry season, but you can still enjoy the lush landscapes left behind by the short rainy season in November and December, before the long rainy season begins.
The hot, dry weather means there are fewer places for the animals to drink. As a result, they gather around the few waterholes that remain, making them easier for visitors to spot.
There are also plenty of opportunities to see Kenya’s fascinating birdlife in February. Winter in Europe causes birds to migrate south and spend the season in warmer climes, with many of them making their way to Kenya.
Last but not least, Kenya offers a fantastic beach holiday, for example on Diani Beach by Mombasa. Here, you can relax on the dazzling white sandy beaches or snorkel among the wonderful coral reefs. If you’re dreaming of a more intimate, local beach holiday in Kenya, the small coastal town of Malindi is also a wonderful choice. Here, you can enjoy the coastline, go snorkelling, or take a catamaran trip.
3 reasons to visit Kenya in February:
- Dry season, which makes it easier to spot wildlife on the savannah
- Rich birdlife, as many birds winter in Kenya
- Lovely beach holiday on Diani Beach by Mombasa or in Malindi
Thailand – Exciting cultural heritage and beautiful beaches

Thailand is a dream destination all year round. In February, it’s dry season with warm temperatures and plentiful hours of sunshine. Temperatures have not yet reached their absolute highs, so February is hot, but not too hot!
Experience the city life in Bangkok or Chiang Mai, explore Thailand’s cultural heritage in one of the country’s many beautiful temples, enjoy nature in Khao Sok National Park or go island hopping between the many paradise islands in Southern Thailand.
In February, there is also a colour explosion of beautiful flowers during the Chiang Mai Flower Festival in northern Thailand, when the city showcases Thailand’s exquisite floral abundance.
